“We are guided by our ancestral values to work together to realize a collective community vision that revitalizes our mother-tongue language - Anishinaabemowin.” ~ Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig
Immersion Coordinator’s Message,
Minodaapnigoom Miiniwaa 2024-2025! (Welome Again!), It is an absolute honour and pleasure to work and learn in our community Immersion School that is contributing to the revitalization of our Anishinaabe language & culture here in Bkejwanong!
I believe the commitment to students, for anyone who works in our school, recognizes that the children are our future. And together as a community we care for “students” to that degree. Having all students and staff feel welcome, with a sense of belonging in their learning and workspaces continues to be a priority as we champion Anishinaabeg Educational Programming.
Our Immersion School is an example of how Indigenous people across Canada are working hard to address language and culture loss, directly associated with former Indian Residential School’s here in Canada. We have a long way to go but we are optimistic and determined to develop and deliver an Indigenous educational program that reflect Anishinaabeg ways of knowing and doing, and will ultimately contribute to ‘Identity Restoration.’
As we process all the events and interactions from year to year, we will continue to reflect and determine what are the best practices that need to continue and how we will work together to create inspirational learning experiences on the land and within our school.
At Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig, our dedicated staff are working hard every day to ensure that students are safe, happy and feeling supported. We are very grateful for the involvement of our families and community members who support us.
Thank you for placing your trust in us to educate your children. We will do our very best to provide them with an excellent academic education, rooted in Anishinaabeg language and culture.

(Bkejwanong Place of Learning Eagle Staff)
The Bkejwanong Anishinaabeg Education Eagle Staff is a symbol of arising of the Anishinaabe language among young learners. It is a marker of empowerment of Anishinaabeg identity and reminder of the ancestral legacy that will never be forgotten. The Staff represents Anishinaabeg traditions and reinforces the values of inclusivity and respect for all members of the community, both past & present.
A special acknowledgement to Maashkode-Migizi-Inini (ba) for sharing his language and cultural knowledge at Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig. His guidance and teachings helped our school become more language and culturally enriched and helped with our eagle staff becoming a reality for all our young learners and community.
