School Relations - Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig Principal & Vice-Principal
Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig staff works cooperatively with BK School administration, including the Principal and Vice Principal, and Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig staff to ensure the success of all AK students. In the event the Coordinator is away, Principal or Vice Principal (or alternate) will be available to assist in all matters related to your child’s academic success. In the event of an emergency and parents/guardians need to be contacted, school secretaries and/or Immersion Coordinator will reach out.
Counselling
Counselling is available to all students of AK from JK and up through Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig’s Child and Youth Program, PACE Program and other additional school services, on a case by case basis by referral of AK. From time to time, Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig staff may make referrals to supporting agencies (counselling, etc.) to assist the student with refocusing on their studies.
Special Education (Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig Student Success Team)
Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig Team works cooperatively with the Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig Student Success Team. Students who are experiencing any difficulties in any class may be referred to the Student Success Team. The Student Success Team works together to come up with strategies that will benefit each student academically, personally or emotionally, including assisting in setting up Independent Education Plans, with Immersion staff. While these services are currently available in English, we strive to be able to offer these services in Anishinaabemowin in the future.
Tutoring
Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig recognizes that students may require extra help with school courses. To ensure that students get the help they need, tutoring services that reflect the direction of our program will be provided. Parents are asked to use the following steps to get extra help:
1. Set up a mutual time with child’s teacher to meet
2. Ask a parent or family member for help
3. Use school support systems, i.e. Education Assistants, teacher’s advice
4. Speak with Coordinator regarding other options and supports.
